Student & Teacher Coaching with Mrs. Arauz
Anastasia graduated from Appalachian State University in 1996 with a degree in Elementary Education and later earned a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from North Carolina Central University in 2003. She expanded her expertise with a Post Master Certificate in Couples and Family Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2009.
With 5 years as a middle school teacher and 9 years as an elementary school counselor, Anastasia brings a wealth of experience to her roles. In 2014, she obtained certification in play therapy and became a Registered Play Therapist (RPT), contributing actively to the Board of North Carolina Association of Play Therapy from 2013 to 2020.
From 2019 to 2023, Anastasia successfully operated her private practice in Jacksonville, NC, specializing in working with children and families. Since 2022, she has extended her expertise to coaching by partnering with schools and parents, guiding them in developing a healthy mindset for building a balanced family system.

(Foreign Language) German with Ms. Theresia
Ms. Theresia was born in Germany and grew up between Germany and Austria. Her love of travel has brought her to 24 countries! She is very excited to be sharing the German language and culture with the students of MCS!
Outdoor Education with Mr. Patterson
Mr. Patterson leads the Outdoor Education Program where MCS students learn about nature, animals, helping to plant garden beds, and getting their hands dirty in some soil!
Literacy with Mrs. Mariah
Mrs. Mariah works with MCS students on structured literacy lessons that provide explicit instruction and are multisensory. Students engage with a sound wall, listen to stories, and work on written portions of class projects.
Locally Delicious through the NC Cooperative Extension
Locally Delicious focuses on an in-season fruit or vegetable. Children learn how it grows, nutritional facts, and how to cook or eat it. This program is presented to the Primary students once a month.
Yoga & PE with Coach Lewis
Coach Lewis provides children’s yoga and physical education classes that promote flexibility, balance, strength, coordination and body awareness. Along with the physical poses, she incorporates songs, stories, breathing exercises along with mindful practice to make it fun! In each session she includes all three styles of learning; visual, audio and especially kinesthetic.
Piano Classes
The Bean Foundation
Mrs. Angie Bean graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Music and taught public school music to K-5th graders for 15 years. Mrs. Bean has been teaching private piano lessons at MCS and in her home for several years. Individual piano lessons are extra, but students age 6 and older can take lessons during the school day.
